Spiritual Diabetes

I have had open heart surgery and five heart stints/stents. I am also an adult diabetic. Diabetes effects my nerves and their ability to send messages in my body. So my heart pain is never the same because my nerves send and received messages differently because of the diabetes.

I though about how that looks in the “body of Christ.” It seems more than not that messages that need to be sent are garbled because of damaged senders and the results it a mess trying to figure out what the communication really is. We may have a kind of “spiritual diabetes” in the church, which has effected our nervous system and causes pain that is unrecognizable.

Now that’s not a thought that I cherish living with “physical and spiritual diabetes.” The medical world tells me that diabetes is only controllable not curable. I choose not to believe such. That doesn’t mean that I stick my head in the sand (sugar sand at that) and “eat my way” into a sugar coma. My faith provides me with hope that God can heal me of that disease in this life. I choose to believe that. That would lead me to also believe that “spiritual diabetes” in the church could also be healed within the body of Christ. I choose to believe that also.

64th Birthday Heart Stints and All!

drwinn 64th birthdayI know, I know. I don’t look a day older than 64. And as of this writing and the picture to your right, I’m not. This has been a wonderful year. Several great events happened. First, I made it another year, heart stints and all. During the early part of the year I finished my Doctor of Ministry project and then graduated from George Fox University in April. Actually, today in 2003 I started that doctoral journey.

I have always liked helping others and one of the great delights has been to coach a fellow cohortian from GFU through his dissertation. His penultimate will be turned in August 28, the deadline, Lord willin’ and the creeks don’t rise! In addition, I helped two other friends get their book finished for their publisher and now it’s out.

In addition, I have been added to the part-time faculty of Bakke Graduate University in Seattle. So all in all, it has been a pretty good year since I last had a birthday.

Questions on Death and Dying, Plus…

Yesterday, Sunday July 30, 2006, I spoke at the community of faith that I participate with in Shoreline, WA. Actually, we had an open time of Q&A in place of a traditional teaching. I will post some of the questions and answers at AskDrWinn.com. So take a peek when you have a moment.

I am still wifeless in Seattle, almost three weeks and counting. My wife is visiting her 90 year-old mom in SoCal. She was due home tomorrow evening, but her mom ended up in the hospital last Friday and won’t be released, at this point, until Wednesday evening. It’s difficult to leave your mom in the hospital, so she is staying for a few more days.

I have also started a new blog at WinnGriffin.com. There I will keep readers abreast of the my growing blog empire and what is being posted plus other special stuff. If you drop over there now and leave your name and email address, I will send you a free gift. You’ll see where to sign up on the right side of the window.

I also am seeking information for a small project that I am working on. It is at My Heart Stint Story. Just leave me a question about heart stints and I will send you a special report with 10 articles about having a healthy heart.

Heart Stint or Heart Stent

As many of you who read this blog may know I am bionic. I had open heart surgery in 1999 and since then have had five heart stints/stents. I was asked recently why I continually spell heart stent with and “i” instead of an “e” making it heart stint. Well, when it comes to being found on the web sometimes missepllings help one get found better than the correct spelling.

I have started an article site which is called: Articles You Want To Read, which will eventually have many different kinds of articles. The first two entries are Acne Treatment Products and Heart Disease Prevention. Go on, take a look or if you hear of someone who is looking for this kind of information, tell them about these two sites.
