Marion,

Thanks for your comments. I have an edition of an NIV Bible that is on its second cover with my hand scratching inside. And, yes, Bible Gateway is very handy.

oh, by the way, I read about the 'Camoflage bible' the other day, for taking on hikes or something

I use my falling apart 1980's edition N.I.V. [as I like the print and the layout and book binders can be fixed], but I am also SO grateful for the online availablity of Bible Gateway, which makes study so much easier and less expensive

the money some spend on having more than one bible could be used to help buy bibles for those in other lands who do not have any, and want them.

yes, I do think many Christians do not study deeply enough...perhaps surface reading without meditating on the meaning of words, and relying on a brief bible study, which has to cater for Christians at all different stages.
When I read some assertions by Christians, on the online social network I use most, I am quite dismayed - often.
Maybe being brought up by a father who loved the bible and studied it deeply, and having a mom who also talked about things in the bible, helps, but I still needed the hunger to search it for myself, after my adult conversion.
